Born in Adoor, Kerala, India, Rev. Fr. Dr. Babu K. Mathew (“Babu Achen”) was ordained as a Deacon on April 30, 1977 and as a Priest on October 27, 1979. He married Molly Kochamma in April 1979 and has three sons Robin, Jaison and Kevin. Babu Achen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kerala University, Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Orthodox Theological Seminary and a Master of Theology Degree from United Theological Seminary, Bengaluru.

He served as the Vicar of Saint Gregorios Church, Hathithal, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, India (1980-1983) and also held the position of Principal at Saint Gregorios School, Hathithal. He served as Professor of Church history at Leonard Theological College, Jabalpur, (1980-1983). In 1984, Babu Achen was appointed Vicar of Saint Stephen’s Malankara Orthodox Church, Bergenfield, New Jersey, which in 2012, relocated to Midland Park, New Jersey.
